I’m glad to share my creative energy with my dementia community. In doing this work I am facing my fear of dementia, embracing it and accepting that whatever the future holds it will always be part of my life.

Alice Blackstock has been working in collaboration with with Drawing Voices to run creative sessions that have included drawing and felting. This culminated in a 4 x 2.5m collaboratively made textile piece, made from woven shirt fabric by 75 participants from 3 Hertswise Dementia groups (Letchworth, Bishop Stortford, and Hertford). The shape is inspired from a drawing of a river made through a drawn conversation exchange with the artist’s father who was non-verbal in the late stages of his Dementia. The textile work is accompanied by a soundscape and will also feature as an audio trail through Hertford. The project is generously funded by East Herts Cultural grants, the Barchester Foundation and the National Lottery Community Fund.
